1 Kings 19: 19-21 NLT So Elijah went and found Elisha son of Shaphat plowing a field. There were twelve teams of oxen in the field, and Elisha was plowing with the twelfth team. Elijah went over to him and threw his cloak across his shoulders and then walked away. Elisha left the oxen standing there, ran after Elijah, and said to him, “First let me go and kiss my father and mother good-bye, and then I will go with you!” Elijah replied, “Go on back, but think about what I have done to you.” So Elisha returned to his oxen and slaughtered them. He used the wood from the plow to build a fire to roast their flesh. He passed around the meat to the townspeople, and they all ate. Then he went with Elijah as his assistant.

To be legendary you must be FAITHFUL

Faithfulness isn’t about running from the monotony of life.
Being faithful is about following God even when you don’t know the details. Just head in the right direction and let God lead you forward. Sometimes you have to look at the backsides of oxen and just be faithful in that.???????????????????????????

Faith oftentimes does before it sees.
When we want to move the mountain and God gives you a shovel, you do what you gotta do. God will bless you for your faithfulness.
More miracles happen when are doing the shoveling instead of just waiting around for God to just zap the mountain. God wants us to have some skin in the game.
We don’t have to know everything to be faithful. It would be easy if God would just tell us all that is going to happen, but that wouldn’t build our relationship and trust in Him.

We make our plans but it is the Lord who determines our steps. Proverbs 16:9
god direcets
Earlier in the story, Elijah ran 300 miles from Queen Jezebel right after seeing one of the biggest miracles in his life. He started complaining that he was the only one and God told him to stop whining and realize that there were others still trusting in Him.
Complacency–God tries to get us to move from here to there but we are so comfortable and complacent that we won’t move. Don’t be stuck in your position that you can’t move when God tells you. But don’t be running ahead of God to do things that He is not ready for you to do. Be faithful, be content, but don’t be complacent.
There is a fine line between contentment and complacency.

Elisha had to follow Elijah’s directions. He had to obey to become legendary.
God has a plan for our future but our disobedience restricts the plan.
Delayed obedience is disobedience.
There is an enourmous cost for disobedience. We don’t have to know it all. When you do what God says, we will learn more about His plan but we must first obey the first commands. Obey the commands He has already given you, be faithful in that, and He will tell you more to do.
plans in pencil
Three things necessary in obedience
1. Count the cost—realize that there will be a cost to obedience–thnk about it and be ready to pay
2. Kiss the world goodbye—You will probably have to give some things up to follow Christ. Friends, relationships, money, plans, dreams
3. Make the journey –Elijah took Elisha to Gilgal-a place of preparing–Sometimes obedience is on the foundational level—-reading your Bible, learning to tithe,  praying constantly. Elisha didn’t stop at Gilgal–he prepared, but he followed Elijah to Bethel–a place of dreams–Sometimes we have to give up our dreams to follow the dream that God has prepared for us. We are to work for eternal results, not momentary plans. You can’t stay in your dreams–you gotta go to Jericho–a place of obstacles and battles. YOu have prepared, you have the vision that God has given you, now it’s time to do battle, it’s time to start shoveling and move some obstacles.  If you are obedient—you can go to Jordan–a place of victory. Obedience is a process, keep making progress. Keep Going–Count the cost, kiss the world good-bye and make the journey.

living sacrifice

You won’t obey without SACRIFICE–You might sacrifice without obedience but then you are on your own. Your sacrifice is in vain.

2 Kings 13:20-21 Then Elisha died and was buried. Groups of Moabite raiders used to invade the land each spring. Once when some Israelites were burying a man, they spied a band of these raiders. So they hastily threw the corpse into the tomb of Elisha and fled. But as soon as the body touched Elisha’s bones, the dead man revived and jumped to his feet!
With God it’s not over just because people say it’s over!! God is the one who says when the end is!!
The eternal value of what we have and what we will produce cannot be measured. We can be legendary in God’s Kingdom just like Elijah and Elisha.
God has your destiny in His hand. He already has a plan for your life. He wants you to be LEGENDARY! He wants you to be GREAT–not in man’s eyes but in His Kingdom.
