3 John 1:2
I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all will go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.
God wants us to have a rhythm of prayer
Everything that you have comes from God. Not just your house and car and purse but your entire life.
If we are going to have peace and faith in our lives we must have prayer as the central rhythm of our lives.
A dentist friend of mine said if I was on a desert island and had the choice of having either a toothbrush or dental floss, I would chose dental floss because it gets the things you don’t see. Prayer is the dental floss of your life. A real relationship with God through prayer will clean out the things others might not see.
Practice prayer, get into a routine. I am not talking about superficial things, like I need this job.
What are you praying for? If you are praying small prayers all the time, and not believing in big miracles, there is something wrong.
You need to be praying for life change, not just for yourself but for others.
Private prayer–can be a struggle–It can get really intense and I can be really praying for powerful things and then in about 30 seconds, my mind wanders. I regroup and do good, then in about 30 seconds, my mind wanders again.
Daniel 6:10—  But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God.
Daniel was already in a rhythm of prayer before adversity came his way. He stoodfast because he was already steady in his prayer life.
Public Prayer–can be uncomfortable, especially corporate prayer, when you have to connect with people. They are squeezing your hand, or giving you the
Acts 4:24– When they heard the report, all the believers lifted their voices together in prayer to God:
We need to ask for boldness in public prayers
Prayer Partners–People who will join with you in prayer. We don’t have to have a crowd–one or two like-minded people is enough.

Luke 8:49-56—49 While he was still speaking to her, a messenger arrived from the home of Jairus, the leader of the synagogue. He told him, “Your daughter is dead. There’s no use troubling the Teacher now.”

50 But when Jesus heard what had happened, he said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Just have faith, and she will be healed.”

51 When they arrived at the house, Jesus wouldn’t let anyone go in with him except Peter, John, James, and the little girl’s father and mother.52 The house was filled with people weeping and wailing, but he said,“Stop the weeping! She isn’t dead; she’s only asleep.”

53 But the crowd laughed at him because they all knew she had died.54 Then Jesus took her by the hand and said in a loud voice, “My child, get up!” 55 And at that moment her life[a] returned, and she immediately stood up! Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat. 56 Her parents were overwhelmed, but Jesus insisted that they not tell anyone what had happened.
Jesus took 3 disciples aside when he was fixing to go through the trial and crucifixion. If He did that, what makes you think that you don’t need a prayer partner?
Examining Jabez’s Prayer
1 Chronicles 4:9-10  There was a man named Jabez who was more honorable than any of his brothers. His mother named him Jabez[a] because his birth had been so painful. 10 He was the one who prayed to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all trouble and pain!” And God granted him his request.

  1. 4:9 Jabez sounds like a Hebrew word meaning “distress” or “pain.”
Jabez wanted what money couldn’t buy. One day we all realize the things that we THOUGHT mattered don’t. That bigger house, nicer car, more fashionable clothes… they don’t mean anything.
Jabez Prayed 1–BLESS ME! With the things that only You can give.
2–EXPAND ME!!–God wants to expand you. He wants to give you blessings that will be expanded exponentionally
You need to pray according to Matthew 6:33
First God needs to be able to trust you with the things He has already given you. Devotion proceeds promotion. Are you faithful in the little things? Before you can receive bigger and more things you must first be devoted and committed to being faithful with what you already have.
PICTURE—God Doesn’t move when you struggle
Ephesians 3:20 2
The third thing Jabez prayed BE WITH ME–In all my days, in everything I do–Be with me!!
We need God in every part of our lives. This needs to be a daily prayer. We need to be seeking God in EVERY decision in our lives. Even the small ones.
Exodus 33:15-If your presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.
No matter where you go, what you do, it isn’t going to be good or wonderful if God is NOT with you. No matter if it is a new job, new car or a new spouse, you better make sure that you are walking God’s path.
The fourth thing Jabez prayer was KEEP ME!! Keep me from trouble and pain. It doesn’t mean that he never had troubles but God could keep those things from tearing him away from God’s path.
Keep me from making decisions that will hurt my family, keep me in your presence.
The three Hebrew children in Daniel 3 said they would not bow. When they heated the furnace up seven times hotter than ever before.
Daniel 3:17-18–If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. 18 But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”
Use these 4 points as a pattern to pray by–Bless, Expand, Be with and Keep me!! Not praying selfishly but realizing that you can be powerful in God through these promises.
God wants to walk and talk with you daily. He wants your life to be in tune with His plan for you.
We have a God Almighty who can turn this world upside down but He works through us. We need to be in tune with Him. We need the Spirit of God working through our lives.
We need to quit praying small prayers. We need to ask God to use us to turn the world upside down. We can be overcomers and can see our community changed through our prayers and through our obedience to Christ.
